EV Roam celebrates 100 ID registrations

Updated: Nov 4

We are delighted to announce that EV Roam has registered its 100th ID.

EV Roam is an ID register which allocates unique IDs to ChargePoint Operators (CPOs) and e-Mobility Service Providers (MSPs) in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.  Roaming is the ability to pay to charge an EV across multiple chargepoint networks using a single app or RFID card.  EV Roam IDs allow CPOs and MSPs to offer consumers roaming - they can exchange data when an EV driver charges their car, giving them a seamless, accurate charging and billing experience.

The Government’s Public Charge Point Regulations, which came into force on 24 November 2023, require CPOs to offer consumers the option to pay through at least one roaming provider at their chargepoints within two years. The success of the EV Roam ID register shows that most CPOs are already very well placed to deliver on this requirement.

Virginia Graham, Chief Executive of Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd who administers EV Roam, said:

We are delighted at the uptake of the EV Roam register which we launched in 2020 in a bid to support both operators and EV drivers who unquestionably benefit from interoperability.

Matthew Adams, Transport Policy Manager at Renewable Energy Association, said:

This industry-led solution shows that the sector is well placed to deliver on Government’s ambitious aspirations for Electric Vehicles going forward.
